Eligibility

B.Sc. Chemistry/Biochemistry as one of the three subjects (as main wherever applicable) and B.Sc.(Vocational) with Food Science & Quality Control.


Syllabus for the Entrance Test

Test A

DNA replication, biosynthesis of RNA, protein synthesis, genetic code, basic principles and applications of recombinant DNA technology, Composition of blood, Blood coagulation, PH & Bufferss Bacteria, Viruses and Vaccination. Radio active isotopes and their use in Biochemistry, Chemical composition and digestibility of foods, protein malnutrition disorders. Structure of cell membrane, Electroosmosis, Osmo-regulation, Role of minerals in living systems, liver function tests, Jaundice, Structure and physiological roles of hormones, Basic features of immune response lymphoid system, T and B lymphocytes, cellular and humoral immunity, classes and structure of immunoglobulin, RIA and ELISA.

Test B

Principles of Enzymology, Bioenergetics, biological oxidations, metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, amino acids and nucleic acids, chemistry and physiological role of vitamins.

Test C

Classification, chemistry and physico-chemical properties of amino acids, proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, lipids, porphyrins. Basic principles of biochemical separation methods - paper, thin layer, ion-exchange, affinity chromatography, gel filtration, dialysis, centrifugation, electrophoresis-paper and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Basic principles of colorimetry and spectrophotometry.

Test D

SYLLABI FOR ENTRANCE TESTS IN SCIENCES, ENGINEERING, ARTS & COMMERCE

The syllabus prescribed hereunder for the tests is generally the same as the one followed for the B.Sc./ B.Com. / B.A. Degree under the Common Core Sheme 1995-98, unless otherwise specified.

B.Sc. Applied Science candidates are also eligible to seek admission into all the courses* for which the B.Sc. Graduates of the following combinations of optional subjects are eligible to appear for AUCET-2006 tests: 1. Mathematics - Physics - Chemistry; 2. Mathematics - Physics - Statistics; 3. Mathematics - Physics - Electronics; **4. Mathematics - Physics - Computer Science.

* except the following chemistry courses, viz., Analytical, Bio-inorganic, Environmental, Inorganic, Foods, Drugs & Water Analysis, Organic, Physical, Nuclear, Marine Chemistry and Bio-Chemistry.

** If the specialization in B.Sc. Applied Science course is Computer Science.
